What is Reverting2Nature?
Reverting2Nature is my personal essay blog about everything that interests me, but especially Art, Literature, Nature, and Philosophy. I use my love of and curiosity about the natural world to inspire and inform my art, my writing, and my philosophy. To me, art, literature, nature, and philosophy are inseparable.
In my blog, I use the personal essay form to discuss practical and technical issues, such as how to make a certain objet d’art, how to learn the names of the mushrooms, or how to ask the right questions. I also sometimes ponder esoteric issues, such as what it means to be an artist, the evolution of specific plants and animals, or whether our very existence limits what we can understand about our existence.
That all sounds fancy, well, and good, but what I’m really doing is bumbling around in my studio and out in the woods and coming back to share with you what I’ve discovered, including my mistakes.
Why that title?
I intuited the title “Reverting2Nature” because after many years of being indoor-oriented, I realized that I’d let myself become nature-depleted. Nothing refreshes me more than a walk alone through a forest; other than my studio, there is no place I prefer to be than in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees.
As a girl, I was very outdoors-oriented, playing in the woods at the back of my parents’ property. Now, at the beginning of my middle-age, I am reverting to my roots, my first love, the natural world. Hence, the title.
The point of it all.
My hope is that by sharing my own enthusiasm for nature and art with you, my readers, I will help each of you reconnect to your inner child, your love of art and nature, and participate in both as much as you want.
